Peggy Higgins is the founder and Director of the Hamilton Yoga Institute. Peggy studied Yoga with Chris and Klaus Karras ofthe Shanti Yoga Institute and received her certification on completion of their Yoga Teacher Training Course.
For several years Peggy was a member of the Federation of Ontario Yoga Teachers. She served on the Board of Directors, was the co-editor of the newsletter, Foytspace, and was a member of the Standards and Education Committee. It was in this capacity that Peggy helped establish standardized testing for all Federation members.
Peggy has been studying and teaching Yoga in the Hamilton area since 1972. She has taught classes for Mohawk College, the Board of Education, the Department of Recreation, Chedoke Hospital, McMaster University, and others. Now her own certified teachers teach most of these classes while Peggy teaches at the Institute.
In addition to Yoga, Peggy is also a Certified Neuro-Linguistic Counsellor, a Certified Ericksonian Hypno-therapist and Trainer of NLP.
Master Brian Alexander began his training in karate in 1971 and Tai Chi in 1987. For the last twenty years he has taught and studied traditional Okinawan karate and traditional Yang style Tai Chi Chi Kung. He heads the longest running traditional Okinawan GoJu Ryu karate school in Ontario.
Master Alexander takes a personal interest in each student and works to help each achieve their own training goals at their own pace.
Master Alexander believes that a true master of the martial arts should also be trained in healing techniques. He has studied Chi Kung, Reiki and other energy and body healing techniques and is a certified Level III master of Reiki. He is also a certified Neuro-Linguistic Counsellor and trainer and provides individual counselling services. Through Hamsa College he teaches courses on Interpersonal Relationship Skills, Human Engineering and Communication Skills, Hypnosis, Belief Systems and Health and other related topics. He is currently writing two books, Advanced Therapeutic Techniques in Neuro-Linguistics and Kidsmarts, Educational and Learning Strategies.
